Rallying the Crew

My studio class this quarter, Conceptual Character Design, ended up with me designing some 19th century pirates-- which I was SO stoked about!!! I'm a huge fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean series, so there's absolutely some influence from that both in the designs as well as the final Illustration. I decided that for this project I would really study what makes the art from Magic the Gathering so incredibly successful, especially the work of Jason Rainville, whose illustrations are utterly spectacular. His Admiral Becket Brass MTG card has been on the side of my screen constantly throughout the process and I never get tired of looking at it! For this illustration I specifically also wanted to focus on the mother-daughter relationship between my characters, alongside showcasing their individual personalities, and I'm super happy with both my execution and speed! The render turnaround was 2 days, and most of my render was completed within one.
